Pathology Review Services
At The Functional Skin Studio, we believe that healthy skin is never just about what you put on your skin, it's also about what's happening within your body.
If you've been investing in quality skincare, regular treatments and looking after your skin, but still aren't seeing the results you'd hoped for, there may be more to the story.
That's why we're excited to introduce our new Pathology Add-On Consultation, a service designed to help us better understand the internal factors that may be influencing your skin.
Looking Beyond the Surface
Your skin is often a reflection of your overall health.
Hormones, nutrient levels, inflammation, stress, and metabolic function all play an important role in how your skin behaves. While treatments and skincare are essential, they can only address part of the picture.
By incorporating pathology into your consultation, we're able to take a more comprehensive, evidence based approach to your skin journey.
Rather than relying on assumptions, we can make recommendations based on what's actually happening inside your body.
Why Would You Consider Pathology?
Our Pathology Add-On is ideal for those who:
Feel like they've "tried everything" without lasting results.
Experience persistent or recurring acne.
Struggle with eczema, dermatitis or inflammatory skin conditions.
Have ongoing pigmentation concerns.
Want a more holistic understanding of their skin health.
Are looking for personalised recommendations instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.
What Can We Learn From Your Blood Test?
Every person's pathology request is tailored to their concerns, but it may include markers such as:
Vitamin D - Supports skin barrier function, immune health and inflammation regulation. Low levels may contribute to slower healing and inflammatory skin conditions.
Zinc - An essential nutrient for wound healing, collagen production and regulating oil production. Zinc also plays an important role in supporting acne-prone skin.
Magnesium - Known for its role in stress regulation, magnesium helps support healthy cortisol levels while contributing to skin hydration and barrier function.
Iron & Full Blood Count - These markers help identify iron deficiency, immune activity and inflammation. Low iron can contribute to dull skin, delayed healing and brittle hair and nails.
Hormone Profile - Hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA can significantly influence acne, pigmentation, oil production and skin ageing.
Liver Function - Healthy liver function supports hormone metabolism and normal detoxification pathways, both of which can influence skin clarity, redness and pigmentation.
What Does the Process Look Like?
Step 1: Book Your Consultation
Choose one of our Skin Consultations and simply add the Pathology Add-On when booking.
Step 2: Your Initial Appointment
During your consultation we'll:
Complete an OBSERV skin analysis.
Assess your skin concerns.
Review your current skincare and lifestyle.
Develop your personalised treatment plan.
Provide you with all the details to request the pathology (if you've selected the add-on).
You'll then visit your preferred pathology collection centre for your blood test.
Step 3: Personalised Review
Once your results are available, they'll be reviewed before being interpreted by one of our Dermal Nurses through a skin health lens.
You'll receive a personalised report with recommendations, along with guidance on practitioner-only supplements where appropriate to support your skin from within.
Why This Approach Matters
No two people with acne have the same cause.
No two people with pigmentation require the same treatment.
No two people with sensitive skin have the same internal picture.
That's why we don't believe in generic treatment plans.
Pathology allows us to better understand your body, helping us create recommendations that are truly personalised and targeted to your individual needs.
It's one more way we're combining clinical knowledge with holistic care to deliver better long-term outcomes.
Functioning skin starts from within.
Our new Pathology Add-On Consultation is another step towards helping you understand your skin on a deeper level, combining advanced skin analysis with internal health insights to create a treatment plan that's uniquely yours.
Because the best skin results don't come from guessing.
They come from understanding.
