At The Functional Skin Studio, our new Lip Glossing treatment uses Redensity 1, a hyaluronic acid based injectable designed to improve skin hydration, texture and elasticity. Unlike a traditional lip augmentation treatment, the intention is not to reshape or significantly increase the size of the lips. Instead, Lip Glossing focuses on lip skin quality, helping the lips look smoother, softer and more hydrated.
What is Lip Glossing?
Lip Glossing is a lip skin booster treatment using hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance naturally found within the body and skin, with a strong ability to bind water. This water-attracting property is one of the reasons HA is widely used in aesthetic medicine and skincare.
Redensity 1 is a highly fluid HA injectable that is designed to distribute evenly within the treated tissue, with the aim of improving hydration, texture and elasticity.
When used superficially in the lips, the focus of Lip Glossing is therefore on hydration and skin quality rather than lip augmentation. The result we're aiming for is not a dramatically different lip shape. It's more about making your existing lips look fresh, smooth, soft and hydrated.
How does Lip Glossing work?
The lips are unique skin. They are thinner and more delicate than much of the skin on the face, have a different structure, and are constantly exposed to movement, moisture changes, the environment and repeated facial expressions.

Lip Glossing vs Lip Filler: What's the Difference?
This is one of the most important things to understand before considering the treatment.
Lip Glossing and lip filler are not the same treatment, even though both may use hyaluronic acid based injectable products.
The difference is largely about what we're trying to achieve.
Lip Glossing

Softening the appearance of fine lip lines
Supporting skin quality
A subtle, hydrated appearance
Maintaining your existing lip shape
A small amount of plumpness may be noticeable because hydrated tissue can appear fuller, but creating significant volume is not the purpose of the treatment.
Lip Filler
Lip filler is designed with a different objective.
Depending on the product and treatment plan, lip filler can be used to:
Add volume
Enhance lip fullness
Define the lip border
Alter or restore lip proportions
Create or modify lip shape
Some hyaluronic acid products are specifically designed for lip augmentation and contouring, which is distinct from the skin-quality focus of Redensity 1.
So if you're happy with the shape and size of your lips but want them to look more hydrated, smoother and softer, Lip Glossing may be a very different conversation from traditional lip augmentation.
What Does Lip Glossing Treat?
Lip Glossing is primarily about skin quality.
It may be considered for people who are noticing:
Dry lips | Hydration can have a significant impact on how smooth and healthy the surface of the lips appears.
Fine lip lines | Fine vertical lines can become more noticeable with age, repeated movement and changes in the skin. Improving hydration and skin quality may help these lines appear softer.

Why Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present within our tissues and plays an important role in hydration and the extracellular matrix. One of its most useful properties is its ability to bind water. This is why you will see hyaluronic acid used across both skincare and aesthetic medicine.
However, not all hyaluronic acid products are designed to do the same thing.
The characteristics of an injectable, including its formulation, concentration, cross-linking, fluidity and intended placement, influence how it behaves within tissue and what it is designed to achieve.
Is Lip Glossing Suitable for Everyone?
No injectable treatment is universally suitable. Your practitioner will assess your lips, medical history, previous treatments, concerns and desired outcome before deciding whether Lip Glossing is appropriate for you.
If your concern is primarily dryness and texture, adding volume may not be what you actually need. Likewise, if you are looking for significant lip augmentation, a skin booster may not achieve the result you're looking for.
